Upgraded from Silver status to Gold by Green Tourism Awards.
The 219-room Copthorne Hotel Slough-Windsor has achieved the Green Tourism Gold Award, from its previous Silver status, through a strong commitment to sustainability across the property. The Green Tourism Awards is an international accreditation given to tourism and hospitality businesses.
Around 75% of the hotel’s public areas are now fitted with smart sensors to reduce energy consumption, while newly installed boiler systems and energy-efficient kitchen equipment helped significantly lower gas usage.
The hotel has also strengthened its focus on sourcing local produce to reduce transportation-related emissions, and implemented responsible waste management practices. During low-occupancy periods, guests are allocated to rooms on the same floors to minimise energy use across the property.
Environment and community initiatives
Keeping the hotel’s surroundings clean and nature-friendly is a key priority. Hotel Manager Mr Sacha Rana is pictured cleaning and refilling bird feeders placed across the grounds (left photo), while the hotel team hand-built a cute hedgehog house (right photo) to support local wildlife and biodiversity.
Beyond operations, the team has actively supported environmental and community initiatives, including Earth Day clean-up activities, creating a hedgehog house, and maintaining greener surroundings around the hotel.
Partnerships with sustainability-minded suppliers also played a role in the hotel’s Gold status. County Linen supports environmentally responsible operations, while Windsor Cars provides electric vehicles as the preferred transport option for guests and staff.
Staff engagement
Staff engagement was another key driver behind the upgrade. Many employees voluntarily completed Green Tourism Foundation certifications, helping to build greater awareness and enthusiasm for sustainable practices throughout the hotel. The team also participated in a low-carbon cooking workshop focused on waste reduction and greener culinary methods.

Staff engagement continues to drive the hotel’s sustainability efforts, from participating in low-carbon cooking workshops (left photo) to helping keep the hotel grounds clean, green and environmentally friendly (right photo).
To ensure continued progress, the hotel conducts quarterly Green Tourism meetings and regularly gathers feedback to identify new sustainability opportunities.
These combined efforts and ongoing commitment to improvement ultimately helped Copthorne Hotel Slough-Windsor attain Green Tourism Gold status.
Congratulations to the efforts of the team!
